The whole system is controlled by a thermostat that is installed somewhere inside the house—usually a central location that is easily accessible to the resident. Newer systems use digital thermostats that can be programmed to meet specific criteria for heating or cooling your home throughout the day. The thermostat also houses a temperature sensor that detects when the system needs to turn on or shut off for a while in order to reach desired settings.
